The alliums are up! I always think of them as onions — showy, glamorous onions that look like they came out of a Dr. Suess story. I've been planting a few of these big bombs in the garden every year and every year I tell myself, I need more!
They are easy to grow and come in all kinds of shapes and shades. The added benefit is that they are great for bouquets and have a long vase life. If you crush their leaves, they smell a bit like onions. But don't try to eat them. They are ornamental are just for show.
After doing a little research, it appears that there are over 700 different types, and, well, I I only have about 5. I foresee some shopping ahead.
