OUR STORY
HOW IT ALL STARTED
People ask me when I decided to do flowers.
Honestly, I should have seen the signs much sooner.
I was about five years old. Late summer. My mom was gardening and my dad was
milking the cows. I sat on the ground, completely mesmerized by a lavender
bush. The dried little seed heads smelled incredible. More amazing? if I
smashed them with rocks, they smelled even stronger.
Today? I still love lavender. And if a flower has scent, it’s going in the
garden.
Fast forward a couple of years. The first spring blooms on the farm are
Indian plum. I tramp through the woods, making a big bouquet for my mom. She happily
accepts my clump of blooming sticks.
Today? I still lose myself making bouquets.
Fast-fast forward to my thirties. I discover there is literally a job called
flower farmer.
What?!
I buy every book I can find. This is what I’ll do when I
retire.
Then life intervenes.
COVID hits — and I’m diagnosed with cancer. (No worries. I’m fine now.) It’s
a sharp reminder that life can change in an instant. So, I quit my job and
start a flower farm on the same land where it all began.
Today
there are no dairy cows anymore.
But there are flowers. Lots of flowers. All sustainably grown and rooted in the
place is all began.

WHY SEASONAL FARM FLOWERS?
Farm flowers are amazing for so many reasons.
- Variety. When you buy seasonal flowers off a farm, you experience varieties you cannot find elsewhere. From spring through fall, something new is budding and
blooming. - Eco-Friendly. When you get a bouquet from a
farm, it wasn’t flown in from another country or preserved with toxic chemicals. Ohop Originals prides itself on a tiny carbon footprint. - Freshness. The flowers picked for weddings and events
are often picked the day before or on the day of the event. It doesn’t get much
fresher than that. - Local
pollination. Flowers on local farm also help local pollinators. The wide variety of flowers at Ohop Originals provide habitat for bees, birds and insects, which in turn help keep soil sustainable and healthy. - Community. By purchasing from a local grower, you’ll help
them remain in business and support your local economy and community.
LOCAL IS BETTER
